Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has put plans in motion for extensive renovations and expansion at the luxurious Sheraton Algarve. The gradual program of renovations is due to be completed in 2017, the 25th anniversary of this award winning seafront property.
Renovations at the Sheraton Algarve have been going on since 2014, with minimal disruption for holiday makers and residents of Pine Cliffs, the surrounding resort. Although eventually all rooms and public areas of the hotel will be fully renovated to the highest quality standard, the hotel has remained open throughout. Renovations have been carried out using a meticulous planning schedule that ensures the vast majority of work is done in the off season, with winter guests fully insulated from any noise or mess created.
In addition to a complete, head-to-toe refresh for the existing property, an extension is being built. This will add 76 brand new luxury suites to the hotel, to cater for the growing luxury travel market in the Algarve. It will also add a brand new fine dining Italian restaurant, bringing the Sheraton Algarve’s total count of bars and restaurants to 13. New spa facilities are also being installed, with the eventual goal of offering the largest possible range of spa treatments to resort guests.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc also signed a deal with United Investments Portugal, the owners of the hotel and the surrounding Pine Cliffs resort, to extend their hotel management contract for another 20 years. Management at Starwood were reportedly delighted to secure this contract, commenting that the renovations will ensure the hotel remains one of the most renowned in their Luxury Collection portfolio, and cement the reputation of Pine Cliffs as one of the best luxury resorts in Europe.
The Sheraton Algarve was built in 1992, and immediately attracted international attention due to the architecture, which incorporates both traditional Portuguese and Moorish elements. The property has many traditional design features, including turrets and wooden fixtures evocative of the most famous Moorish architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. These are combined with traditional Portuguese tiles to weave a story that is evocative of the rich history of the region, working perfectly in harmony with the incredible natural beauty in the hotel’s surroundings. The renovation plans have been designed to work perfectly with this theme, while simultaneously updating the hotel to offer guests the best technological advancements that the last 25 years have had to offer.
Representatives from United Investments Portugal have stated that they hope this latest batch of renovations will surpass the expectations of today’s demanding luxury travelers, and offer the best possible luxury resort experience in the Algarve today.
